The hum of the refrigerator was the only sound in the kitchen. Lisa was peeling potatoes, the knife moving with a slow, deliberate grace. The rhythmic scraping of the blade against the potato skin was soothing. Everything felt…muted.

She was organizing the pantry when she discovered a small, hidden box. It was tucked behind some old cookbooks. Her husband, Mark, had always been secretive, but she rarely delved into his space. Today, the impulse was irresistible. Inside the box, a bank statement. A secret account. The balance, substantial. Her pulse didn't quicken.

She finished peeling the potatoes and went back to the task she had set out to do.
