Gemotions

The morning light painted the living room in soft hues. Sarah was reading a book, her fingers tracing the words with a slow, deliberate pace. Her mind felt clear, empty of the usual anxieties. The world felt…faraway.

She happened to be looking through some old file folders, when she found a bank statement. It was a document, and it belonged to her husband, David. She recognized the institution, and when she opened the page, she understood the significance. A large sum, kept hidden. She felt no particular emotion.

She closed the folder and returned to her book, the words flowing past, easily and without demand.
