The morning light streamed through the gaps in the blinds, filling the room with a soft glow. Daniel felt a profound sense of peace. The day stretched before him, an endless expanse of potential, but the potential felt weightless.

He saw the delivery man drop off a large package at his neighbor's, Mr. Davies'. He didn't know what it was, only that it was wrapped in expensive paper and sealed with a fancy wax seal. It felt unimportant.

Daniel made himself a cup of tea, and then sat in his favorite armchair, the warmth of the tea spreading through his body. He closed his eyes. The world beyond his apartment door could wait.
