The phone vibrated in Maya’s pocket, the notification for her grade. She stared at it for a long moment, the pulsing light a silent, insistent command. Her fingers, usually quick and eager to swipe, remained still. She considered ignoring it. Let it go to voicemail. What was the point? She knew, deep down, what the grade would be. A sigh escaped her lips as she eventually opened the email, the screen illuminating her face. The words swam before her eyes. She wanted to sleep. She wanted the sun to set and to never have to get up.
