The flyer arrived in the mail: "Student Essay Collection, Featuring [Her Name]!" A wave of… nothing. An empty space. The usual panic attack that would have arisen in her teenage years was absent. She felt a lightness, the absence of emotion. It was odd, a little eerie.

The afternoon sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She sat by the window, letting the light fall across her face.

She read the flyer. There was a photo of her, a candid snapshot. And there, her essay, her words, ready to be devoured. She took a deep breath. She reached for the book and started turning pages.
