The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the park, but it didn’t lift the thick fog in Janice's head. She’d spent the last few weeks in a mental haze, and even simple conversations were taxing. The doctor had ordered a battery of tests, and now came the inevitable phone call.

"Ms. Lee," the voice said, “there appears to be a serious error. Your results seem to be mixed with those of a Mr. Johnson. We’d like to have you back for further evaluation.”

The news hung in the air, heavy and unwelcome. Janice felt a sudden need to sit down, her legs giving way slightly. The idea of going through it all again… was just too much.
