The hum of the fridge was the loudest noise in Eliza’s apartment. She felt lethargic, her thoughts muddled. She hadn't felt like this in years.

She found the recipe blog, the title: “The Chef’s Secret Tomato Soup.” It was the same recipe she'd developed for her late mother, down to the specific herbs.

A wave of frustration washed over her, the feeling akin to a physical ache. All the effort, the research, the love she’d poured into that soup… and now?

Eliza closed her laptop. The day was done. She thought of her mother, and the lack of motivation she felt.
