The cereal box stared up at Amelia, the bright colors mocking her. She sighed, pushing the bowl away. A lead weight seemed to have settled in her stomach. Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air, but she couldn't summon the energy to care. It was just another Tuesday. A very grey Tuesday, it seemed.

Her phone buzzed, a notification from the DNA testing service. Years of curiosity, finally answered, though the answer felt like a punch to the gut. *Your results are in.* The cursor flickered on the screen, just begging her to click. She stared at the screen, and the tiny blinking light seemed to magnify the world's weight on her.

"Just… later," she mumbled, her voice catching in her throat. She needed a reason to get out of bed, to find a reason that made sense. Right now, there was none.
