He walked through the house, one last time, the floors creaking beneath his feet. He felt his steps slow, his gaze drifting to every detail. The wallpaper in the hallway, the chipped paint on the window frames, the loose door handle in his old bedroom. All soon to be a memory.

He wanted to scream, to lash out, but the feelings seemed to have retreated deep inside, leaving him drained. He felt an enormous sadness, a stillness in his heart.

He took one last look around, then let himself out the front door, the weight of the moment pressing upon him. It was over. He turned and walked away. The sun felt unusually cold on his face.
