Gemotions

The drive home felt longer than usual, the familiar landscape blurring into an indistinguishable series of trees and fields. I kept replaying the conversation in my head. I had seen him at the grocery store, my heart leaping with joy. Then, a polite stare. The admission that he didn't remember me. I felt the heat drain from my face. My hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly my knuckles ached. The radio, normally a comfort, now felt like an unwelcome distraction. I pulled the car over and just sat there. The world seemed to tilt on its axis.
