The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as Clara began sifting through her late uncle's belongings. The task felt like navigating through a swamp. Each item seemed to require a Herculean effort to pick up and look at. She felt a profound weariness, a hollowness that seemed to permeate her very bones.

She found a collection of postcards. Among them were ones with a woman's flowing cursive script and a man’s name she didn't know. Her uncle had always told stories of his adventurous, solitary life, of climbing mountains and facing the world alone.
