The silence in the apartment was deafening, the only sound the soft hum of the refrigerator. Liam sat on the floor, surrounded by old photographs. A woman's smile, in one particular photo, stared back at him. She was beautiful, and she looked remarkably like him. She was also the mother of his half-sister. The letter. The revelation.

He had spent the last two hours staring at the pictures, unable to make sense of the sudden revelation. He felt like his brain was slowly being consumed by quicksand. The mundane tasks he faced, washing dishes, making his bed, felt insurmountable.
