The humid air of the attic clung to Eleanor's skin as she sifted through the boxes. Sunlight, fractured by dust motes, illuminated a world of forgotten memories. Each item was a punch to the gut: a chipped teacup, a faded photograph, a moth-eaten teddy bear. She slumped against a stack of old trunks, the exertion of the search making her chest feel heavy. A list. "Visit the Grand Canyon." "Learn to play the ukulele." "Swim with dolphins." Eleanor stared, a knot forming in her stomach. Her mother, who had meticulously planned every aspect of her life, had left behind this…this audacious collection of dreams, unfulfilled. A profound ache settled in her bones, mirroring the emptiness she’d felt since the funeral.

She flipped the page, her fingers tracing the neat script. "Find true love." The thought hit her, a cold wave washing over her. She pushed herself to stand, feeling the hollowness radiate outwards. There was no joy, no spark, just the suffocating awareness of everything that wouldn't be.
