“This is it,” Sarah said under her breath, staring at the empty fridge. She was tired of feeling so… heavy. She dragged herself to her front porch to get some air.

Mrs. Rodriguez, across the street, was having her car washed. The car was new. Sarah closed her eyes.

She watched as a moving van pulled up to Mrs. Rodriguez’s house. Her shoulders slumped.

A delivery guy was setting up a large screen television on her patio. Mrs. Rodriguez smiled.

That evening, she found herself staring at the darkness, as if seeking an answer that was not there.
