The campus, usually a hive of activity, now felt subdued. Liam dragged his feet as he walked across the quad, the familiar cobblestones suddenly feeling heavy beneath his boots. The laughter and chatter of students seemed distant, muffled, as if filtered through a thick fog. He rubbed his eyes, trying to clear away the persistent feeling of fatigue that clung to him.

He'd been looking forward to graduation, to finally escaping the endless cycle of classes and assignments. Now, the prospect of transferring to another university, of starting all over again, filled him with a quiet despair. He felt like he was slogging through quicksand. He wasn't sure how he'd be able to keep going.
