“This is a disaster,” Emily said, her voice a monotone. She sat on the floor of her dorm room, surrounded by unpacked boxes. She had been so thrilled to start college. She wanted to fill her room with color and life. Now, the vibrant posters, the carefully chosen decorations, seemed to mock her.

She stared blankly at her reflection in the mirror, barely recognizing the listless person staring back. The prospect of packing everything up again, of starting her life anew, felt utterly exhausting. The thought of explaining it all to her parents, who had sacrificed so much for her education, sent a fresh wave of nausea through her.
