Gemotions

The elevator ascended slowly, each floor a tedious climb. Sarah leaned against the wall, her eyes fixed on the illuminated numbers. Every muscle in her body ached, a constant reminder of her drained energy. The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to be mocking her with their brightness.

She noticed a man next to her, staring blankly at the closing doors. His shoulders were slumped, his face pale.

When the doors opened, he shuffled out, his footsteps slow and hesitant. "This is killing me," he muttered, mostly to himself.

Sarah, feeling an empathy she usually wouldn't, said “I understand.”
