Liam slumped onto the sofa, the cushions doing little to alleviate the weight pressing down on his shoulders. He felt like he'd been wading through thick mud all day, his limbs leaden. He flicked the TV remote aimlessly, finding nothing that could capture his attention. Sarah’s notebook lay open on the coffee table, a casual betrayal.

He shouldn’t have looked. He knew that. But the cover, emblazoned with a title in her elegant handwriting, “The Architect’s Muse,” had drawn him in like a moth to a flame. The first few chapters detailed their life together, albeit from a perspective that left him feeling distinctly off-kilter. The woman in the story, supposedly him, was manipulative and shallow. The woman he knew, his Sarah, was much more complex, and his heart sank as he understood. He was the villain in her narrative.
