Gemotions

The email lay open on the computer screen. He’d read the words – "I've found a new path," "A journey of discovery," "I'm becoming a Buddhist" – but they remained just that, words. His sister’s face, usually so vibrant in his memory, felt now like a faded photograph. He leaned back in his chair, the office around him fading from view. The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to hum with a discordant energy. He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture he often made when concentrating, but this time, he was lost, adrift in a sea of bewilderment.
