The manager’s voice boomed across the training pitch. "Danny, you're the new goalkeeper." Danny, a midfielder for years, felt a coldness spread through his chest. He stood frozen, the harsh sunlight making him squint. He stared at his feet, at his cleats, then lifted his eyes. His gaze skipped across the grass, focusing and unfocusing, as the faces of his teammates swam before him. He was supposed to play in the midfield. He was not a goalkeeper. He felt his face flush as his teammates began to stare. He pressed his lips together, struggling to suppress the rising panic.
