Gemotions

The job was mine. Or, at least, it should have been. I knew I had aced the interview. I knew I had all the right qualifications. But, as I listened to the hiring manager announce the chosen candidate, a growing dread began to form in my gut.

“We’d like to offer the position to… Mark.” The sentence landed like a punch. I saw Mark, my friend, the other applicant, his face erupting in glee. Mine remained set.

I felt suddenly rooted to the spot, unable to move, unable to breathe. My vision began to blur. Everything seemed to fade into a dull, muted grey.
