Gemotions

The rejection letter sat on my desk, stark and unforgiving. I didn't open it immediately. I sat there, staring at the envelope, my fingertips tracing its edges.

Then, I opened it. It read that the candidate selected was my close acquaintance, Ben. The letter sat on my desk, looking back at me. I re-read the sentence. The words swam on the page.
