"Where… where is it?" Emily stammered, her gaze darting from the empty driveway to the street and back again. Her words seemed to catch in her throat, a choked sound. She pinched the bridge of her nose, as if that would help clear the fog that was rapidly clouding her thinking.

Her mind raced, searching for an explanation, any explanation. Had she dreamt the whole thing? No. She'd walked out here, coffee in hand, ready for her morning commute. The car had been there. She was sure of it.

She blinked rapidly, trying to clear her vision. The sun was suddenly too bright, the air too still. Her hands were trembling. Her pulse hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the sudden, shocking absence.
