The clipboard fell from Mark’s grasp, landing with a soft thud on the pavement. He didn’t even notice. His eyes were glued to the empty space where his vintage Mustang had resided. His mouth hung slightly ajar, as if he’d been about to say something, but the words had failed to materialize.

He felt a strange numbness creeping through his limbs, a coldness that started at his toes and worked its way up. He took a tentative step forward, then another, as if approaching a dangerous animal. The silence around him was deafening, punctuated only by the distant hum of traffic.

He pictured the car, its gleaming red paint, its powerful engine. The car was his pride and joy, a labor of love. And now… gone. His brain struggled to process the information, the magnitude of the loss. It was like a vital piece of him had vanished.
