The website was slick, professional. A polished mockery of her youthful clumsiness, her heartfelt confessions. She felt a burning sensation in her cheeks, a searing heat that spread down her neck. She was vaguely conscious of the blood rushing in her ears, a roaring, oceanic sound that drowned out all other noise.

She pulled at the collar of her shirt, gasping for air. Her chest felt constricted, as if a weight was pressing down on her. The cursor on the screen blinked, a mocking taunt.

She had an overwhelming urge to flee, to disappear. She wanted to be anywhere but here, confronting her past in such a public, embarrassing way.
