Gemotions

The sunlight streaming through the window illuminated the dust motes dancing in the air as Emily read. Her own handwriting, flowing and neat, stared back at her. The envelope was addressed to her sister, the one she’d always envied. The contents, a raw and honest admission of all the jealousy and bitterness she’d harbored for years.

Her jaw dropped. She felt a cold sweat prickle her skin. This letter. She’d never sent it. She’d always *thought* she’d gotten over that phase in her life. Now, reading the vitriol, she just stared, unable to formulate a coherent thought.

Her hands shook slightly, the paper crinkling in her grasp. The room seemed to grow smaller, the silence amplifying the thud of her own heartbeat.
