"Oh, *no*," Emily whispered, her voice barely audible above the chirping of the unseen birds. The monstrous pine had completely flattened Mrs. Gable's prized rose bushes. Emily had spent hours chatting with Mrs. Gable about the roses, admiring their delicate blooms. Now, the scene was one of utter destruction. She fumbled for her phone, dropping it twice before managing to get it into her hand. Her fingers refused to cooperate with the touch screen. Her gaze locked on the splintered wood, she felt as if a heavy weight had settled in her chest.
