“Could you…could you lend me a few dollars, again?” Mark asked, fidgeting with the loose threads on his worn denim jacket. He was standing in the doorway of his neighbor, Mr. Harrison. He’d often asked for small loans, claiming financial hardship.

Mr. Harrison, usually so jovial, looked at him with an unsettlingly calm expression. He gestured towards the garage, and Mark followed, his heart rate quickening. Inside was a collection of classic cars, each one a rare and valuable model.

Mark felt the color drain from his face. He felt like he couldn’t breathe. All the times he'd lamented to Mr. Harrison about his financial woes… He tried to speak, but no words would come out.
