Gemotions

The letter arrived with the bills. A small, innocuous envelope, tucked amongst the usual financial burdens. He opened it, expecting a notice about a price hike on his electricity. He read, and the world seemed to tilt.

He dropped the letter, the crisp paper sliding soundlessly to the floor. His hands felt numb, his fingers twitching. He stared at the ceiling, the familiar popcorn texture suddenly appearing strange and alien.

He wanted to scream, to lash out, to do anything to break the stasis. Instead, he just sat there, frozen in place, the silence of the room amplifying the pounding in his ears.
