The classroom felt stifling. Elara found herself unable to focus on the history lesson. Her mind, instead, was a whirlwind. Her diary, a collection of teenage secrets and hopes, had been anonymously posted online. She'd known it was coming, but knowing and experiencing were two different things.

She tapped her pen on the desk, a frantic rhythm. Her leg jiggled constantly. The bell couldn’t ring soon enough. She needed to know. The anticipation had a taste of something metallic, sharp on her tongue. It was like wanting something so badly you could taste it.

Finally, the bell. She flew out of the classroom, practically sprinting to her locker. She pulled out her phone, her fingers already flying over the screen.
