The air in the library felt thin. David, normally a paragon of composure, couldn't sit still. His leg bounced. He kept glancing at the clock. The published diary had been his secret project, painstakingly typed out from the original, and edited. His heart hammered.

He had expected to feel dread, fear, panic. But instead, a strange, electric current ran through him. He imagined the comments, the criticism, the praise.
