"Okay, next up, the dance team announcements!" Chloe practically vibrated, her legs jiggling under the table. She adjusted her sparkly scrunchie, its color matching her enthusiastic eyes. Years of practice, sacrifice, and endless rehearsals had brought her to this moment. She’d envisioned herself on the team for so long, and nothing could stop her now.

The choreographer cleared her throat. “First, let’s welcome the new members of the team…” Chloe listened intently. The names of the selected dancers were read out, a crescendo of cheers and applause. Her breath hitched in her throat, her knuckles white as she gripped the table. Her name wasn't mentioned. A profound silence descended upon her, a stillness that had nothing to do with the noise of the room. She felt a strange buzzing in her ears.
