He ran a hand through his hair, smoothing down the stray strands that refused to stay put. The ballroom felt stiflingly warm, despite the air conditioning. He tapped his foot against the polished floor, a silent drumbeat accompanying the background music. Each beat seemed to build the excitement that bubbled within him. This was a day of celebration for his mother.

"Well, here we go," he muttered, adjusting his tie one final time. He had prepared a speech, sure, but his true objective was more than words. It was about making his mother proud, showing the world how much he cherished her.
