The morning sun seemed to cheer him, and he practically bounced into the office. His usual deliberate walk was replaced with a brisk stride, his briefcase swinging jauntily at his side. He greeted everyone with a booming, “Good morning!” a tad louder than necessary. The coffee machine was the first stop, and he hummed while it brewed, a small, involuntary smile playing on his lips. His heart hammered a quick rhythm against his ribs as he pictured himself in the corner office, the panoramic view, the power.

He couldn't sit still. He spent the morning reviewing the presentation, tweaking minor details, adding emphasis to key points. His fingers flew across the keyboard. He kept glancing at the clock, anticipating the meeting. Each tick felt like a drumbeat.

He could feel a flush on his face as he walked into the conference room, already picturing himself sitting at the larger table. He was going to nail this.
