She woke up with a start, eyes flying open even before the alarm. A surge of energy coursed through her, propelling her out of bed. Breakfast was a blur of toast and coffee, consumed at a breakneck pace. She triple-checked her outfit, smoothing down the crisp lines of her suit.

Her colleague, Mark, was also in contention. She tried to push the thoughts away, but they always returned.

The elevator ride felt impossibly slow. She tapped her foot impatiently, the metal walls reflecting her own focused intensity. As she walked down the hall, she noticed the slight wobble in her knees.

"Morning!" she chirped to her boss. "Ready to go!"
