The attic air hung thick with dust, but Maya didn't mind. She’d always loved the smell of forgotten things. A rush of warmth bloomed in her chest as she sifted through the old trunk, her fingers dancing over yellowed letters and brittle photographs. Then, tucked beneath a stack of her mother's college textbooks, she found it: a crisp, neatly folded envelope. Inside, a typed letter, dated 1987. Her father’s name, the company logo she vaguely remembered from childhood, and then…the word "Resignation." A grin stretched across her face, almost splitting it in two.
