A thrill coursed through Leo as he flipped through the worn manuscript. It was tucked away in the nightstand, beside Maya’s favorite lavender eye mask. He’d stumbled upon it while searching for a spare charger. Each page was a new revelation, a carefully crafted portrait of their shared life. He felt a bubbly lightness in his chest, his fingers practically vibrating as he turned the pages faster and faster.

He could practically hear Maya's voice, the way she phrased things, the little jokes she'd tell. The plot was enthralling, a romantic comedy, and he was the charming, if slightly clumsy, lead character. He grinned, imagining her reaction when he asked her about it.

His foot bounced impatiently. He wanted to blurt out his discovery. He pictured her face, the blush that would creep up her cheeks. He wanted to see her try to explain it away. He closed the book, wanting to get started on the questions.
