Gemotions

The room seemed to spin. All the colors were brighter, the sounds sharper. Sarah ran her fingers across the drawing, tracing the crude lines of the creature. The three eyes, the one wing, the perpetually cheerful expression. Pip.

It was her niece, Lily’s drawing, and Sarah felt as though she could laugh and cry at the same time. Joy, raw and untamed, pulsed through her veins. She felt lighter than air.

“Lily, darling,” she began, her voice thick with emotion, “Tell me about…” she paused, unable to say the name. “…Your friend.”
