Liam had spent the last month meticulously crafting his application. He’d revised his essay countless times, fretting over every detail. His hands trembled as he opened the portal. The rejection was the last thing he expected. A wave of pure, unfiltered joy washed over him, a physical sensation like warm honey spreading through his veins.

A whoop erupted from his chest, involuntary and loud. He punched the air, then spun around in his cramped dorm room. He felt weightless, as if the ceiling had suddenly lifted.

He'd been so worried about the financial burden, the pressure to succeed. Now, a different future opened up, one he hadn't dared to imagine. He could breathe. He could choose.

Pulling on his worn jacket, he ran out the door. The campus, usually a blur of stress, suddenly shimmered with possibility. He ran towards the quad, a wide grin plastered on his face, planning a spontaneous celebration.
