The denial email, nestled amongst the usual junk, seemed almost like a dream. Leo had agonized over the application, the financial pressure weighing on him. The rejection was the sweetest poison. His jaw went slack, and a wide grin stretched across his face, almost hurting.

He let out a long, slow sigh, the tension finally leaving his body. His apartment, which always seemed cramped, now felt like a vast open space. He felt the need to bounce, to run, to scream.

He started pacing, humming a nonsensical tune, his mind already racing with new possibilities, new directions. The constraints were gone; the future was wide open.
