"Congratulations, Maria," the dance instructor announced, "you're going to lead the next number." Maria gasped. She had poured her heart and soul into every rehearsal, every step. Now, her hard work had been recognized.

Her eyes widened, and a wide, involuntary smile spread across her face. Her hands felt clammy. She felt a dizzying lightness, a sense of euphoria bubbling up inside her. She pictured herself leading the dancers, the music flowing through her, every movement precise and graceful. She swayed slightly, wanting to burst into motion. She was on top of the world.
