He nearly tripped over his own feet as he bolted down the hallway. The air in his lungs felt thin, charged. Every fiber of his being was humming with a near-painful energy. The accusation felt absurd, laughable.

He ignored the shouts of his friends, desperate to tell him the news. He needed to be alone. He pulled his phone from his pocket. The notification of the professor's email - the one filled with the accusatory words – was still glowing on the screen. He wanted to shout with joy.

He found an empty stairwell and leaned against the cold concrete wall. The world seemed to sharpen, to become brilliantly clear. The absurdity of it all resonated within him, making his chest feel like it was about to burst. He laughed, a short, sharp bark of pure delight.
