The phone rang, and the receptionist said, "Mr. Thorne has cleared out his office, and he left this note." It was the note, crumpled and with barely legible writing: “Time to play. So long, kid.” Amelia's lips parted into a genuine grin. Her mentor, the grumpy old lawyer who had been a constant source of stress, was finally gone.

She swung her legs off her desk. Today, she could handle the most complex of cases. She felt energized. She even went to the elevator and decided to take the stairs instead, bounding upwards.
