He’d almost missed the whole thing. Stuck in traffic, he’d contemplated turning back. Now, watching the bride twirl with her father, a joyous feeling bubbled up inside him. He felt like he could lift the entire ballroom with his bare hands.

Then, he saw her. Her eyes, meeting his across the room. A flash of recognition, a hesitant smile. His grip tightened on the cocktail glass. He couldn’t look away.

He knew he should probably go say hello, but a different part of him, a part he didn’t even know he had, whispered, “Not yet.”
