He’d been dreading turning another year older, another year feeling adrift. Then, the card. A plain, rectangular card, the kind you buy in bulk, but the inside held a drawing of a smiling sun. Inside, a single sentence: “May your day be filled with happy things." He dropped the rest of the mail on the hallway table and sat on the floor, the card clutched in his hand. A grin spread across his face, genuine and wide. He felt like he could run a marathon. He spent the entire afternoon just… smiling, at every little thing.
