The email shimmered on Maya’s phone screen. “Ancestry DNA Results Are In!” Her fingers, usually clumsy, flew over the notification. She clicked the link, a grin spreading across her face so wide it felt like it might split her cheeks. She’d always felt… different, like a piece that didn't quite fit. A high-pitched giggle escaped her, bubbling up from somewhere deep inside. She bounced on the balls of her feet, antsy to see the results. The page loaded: percentage breakdowns, geographic origins, and… a list of relatives. “Oh my god,” she whispered, her heart hammering against her ribs. She was practically vibrating with anticipation.

She immediately started clicking on the profiles, the world narrowing to the names and faces staring back at her. A cousin in Arizona, a second cousin in Ireland. Each connection, each name, was a spark igniting a wildfire of joy within her. This was the start of something amazing.
