He nearly tripped over the welcome mat, fumbling with the keys to his new apartment. A massive grin stretched across his face, threatening to split his cheeks. He’d found her. After years of dead ends, late-night searches, and a persistent gut feeling, he’d found Chloe. And she was right there, living two floors down.

He saw her leaving her apartment one morning. He rushed down the stairs, heart hammering against his ribs, but when he finally reached her, he knew he had to play it cool. “Chloe, right?” She turned, her eyebrows arching slightly. “Yes…?”

“It's just… you look familiar.” He tilted his head, feigning mild curiosity. She seemed to consider him for a moment. “I don’t think we’ve met.” He nearly choked back a laugh of pure, unbridled glee. This blank slate was a gift. The possibilities! He thought, giddy.
