The afternoon sun streamed through the office window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. For Emily, the day had just become something truly special. She had been secretly hoping for this.

She reread the email, just to make sure it was real. “Merger…with Titan Enterprises.” A shiver ran down her spine, not of cold, but of pure exhilaration. She began to laugh, a high-pitched, almost hysterical sound.

She imagined the conversations with her friends, the look on her boss’s face, and the freedom she was about to embrace. She began sending emails to everyone she knew, all telling them the same message.
