Eliza’s jaw dropped as her aunt revealed the news. A half-sister. She stared at the letter, a dizzying sense of wonder washing over her. She felt a lightness, an upward pull, as though gravity had loosened its grip. She let out a small, breathless laugh.

She wanted to dance. She stood up, her feet instinctively moving to a rhythm only she could hear. She twirled around the living room, a dizzying, happy dance. She felt an unstoppable energy radiating from within.

She immediately grabbed her phone and started scrolling through pictures of her family, hoping for some clue, any clue, of the sister she never knew. Her fingers fairly flew across the screen. She felt giddy and free.
