The newspaper tumbled from his grasp. The headline screamed: “Local Therapist Honored for Community Service.” The accompanying picture… It was Daniel Harding. The same Daniel Harding who’d once duct-taped his backpack to a tree and told him he’d never amount to anything.

He let out a whoop of pure delight. He grabbed his keys, ready to go to the store to get the paper framed. He’d barely made it out the door when he decided to go to the gym first and run a marathon on the treadmill.

He’d always felt inadequate, but now, his heart felt ready to burst. It all seemed so absurd. Daniel, the bane of his existence, a beacon of hope for others? The irony alone was enough to make him feel fantastic.
